Performance Notes

In the early 70s, the Grateful Dead started building improvisations around a lively little riff based on an E Major 7th chord that reminded quite a few people of the rhythm guitar part from the great 60s soul hit by Archie Bell and the Drells, “Tighten Up.” Eventually, that lick evolved into the foundation of one of the most enduring songs in the Dead catalog, “Eyes Of The World,” which made its recorded debut on “Wake Of The Flood” in 1973. All these years later, the song remains a highlight of many a live show, as you’ll hear in this version, with instrumental solo contributions by John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge. – Gary Lambert

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City and ended with two sold-out performances at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum in Inglewood, California.

Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Company’s 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.

If it's not going to be Phil, might as well be Oteil…..

I was at that show, up in the nosebleeds on Jeff's side.Fantastic show, but honestly, I thought 6/20/16 at BB&T pavilion across the river in Camden was far better, especially Oteill's solo. He was spot-on perfect in Camden (they all were that show, I thought), but I thought he floundered a little on the back end of his solo here, and John stepped in and picked him up a little like a good bandmate.

Awesome version
So much love for this band right now

This is my favorite dead song . Definitely not my favorite dead and co song . I didn’t think it was good . There are highlights but some pretty sour parts also

Jake Rezek says:

Wake up to find you are the eyes of the world

Tom Reynolds says:

I really wish Bobby wouldn't put the pause in the lyric, it just gives the whole flow a 'hiccup'…also wish he would let Oteil or John sing eyes….but he's Bob fucking Weir and he's earned the right to do anything he wants with these songs…
